James Duckworth of Australia and Hubert Hurkacz of Poland will open a four-game schedule in the men’s singles tournament at the 2024 Terra Wortmann Open in Halle, Germany. Duckworth punched his ticket into the round of 16 with a 6-4 6-4 win over Joao Fonseca of Brazil. The Aussie had to go through a pair of qualifying matches to enter the main draw of this prestigious ATP 500 grass-court tournament. In his first-round match vs. Fonseca, Duckworth won 71 per cent of the first serves and broke serve twice. Meanwhile, Hurkacz had to fend off a furious challenge from his upset-minded Fabio Cabolli of Italy, pulling off a hard-earned 7-5 7-6(2) victory. Hurkacz, the No.5 seed, fired 19 aces and won 80 percent of the first serves. He also captured 2 of 9 break point opportunities in the game to survive Cabolli. Duckworth and Hurkacz will be meeting for the second time in their careers. The Polish won the initial encounter 6-2 6-7(4) 7-5 in the quarterfinals of the Paris Masters 2021.
