The Houston Astros will gun for their third win in four games when they kick off their three-game series with the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park on Monday.
The Astros came out as the winner of the series with the Minnesota Twins as Jose Altuve pulled off the go-ahead RBI in the 10th inning of a 9-7 win on Sunday. Houston, who also won the series-opener 5-2 before losing Game 2 to the Twins 1-6, is coming into a new series with one of the worst batting metrics in baseball, ranking second to the last in total runs (29) and 22nd in batting average .216. However, their defense and pitching remains potent despite losing Justin Verlander and Yusei Kikuchi in the offseason. The Astros rank inside the top 10 in ERA (3.78), WHIP (1.11) and BAA (.186).
The Mariners have lost their last three assignments and four of their last five games. As a result, they are now last in the American League West standings with a 3-7 record. Seattle is batting .213 with 32 runs and pitching a 4.58 ERA, which puts them inside the lower quadrant of this statistical department.

Both pitchers didn’t have the best start to their season, as Wesneski allowed three runs in five innings in a 1-3 loss to the Giants, while Gilbert surrendered three runs in five innings in a 1-4 loss to Detroit. However, despite the starters’ pitching woes, I still think we will have a low-scoring contest on Monday since these two aren’t scoring plenty of runs as of late.
