Carlos Alcaraz’s quest for a third consecutive Indian Wells title resumes on Wednesday when he goes head-to-head with veteran Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria in the fourth round. Alcaraz advanced to the fourth round after taming Denis Shapovalov of Canada 6-2 6-4. The four-time Grand Slam champion got the better of the exchanges by winning 31 points on his first serves and converting four of eight breakpoint chances. With the victory, Alcaraz moves a step closer to joining Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer as the only men’s singles players to win three straight Indian Wells title. Meanwhile, Grigor Dimitrov escaped with a win over Gael Monfils 7-6(4) 4-6 7-6(2) in a three-hour tussle late Sunday evening. Dimitrov converted just 2 of 11 breakpoint chances but he made up by scoring a lot of points off his serves. He earned 44 points off the first serves and 33 off the second. The Bulgarian is aiming to reach the quarterfinal at Indian Wells for only the third time in his career.
