The Golden State Warriors will try to capture a commanding 2-0 lead in their Western Conference first-round series with the Houston Rockets on Wednesday at Toyota Center.
The Warriors banked on their experience to grind out a 95-85 road win over the Rockets at Toyota Center in Game 1. Playoff-tested veteran Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler delivered the big baskets late to help Golden State overcome the feistiness of the young but still inexperience Rockets teams. Curry finished with 31 points and Butler 25 to lead the way for the Warriors, who shot 47.4 FG% and smothered the Rockets to under 40 FG%.
The Rockets, the No.2 seed in the West, got exposed by the seasoned Warriors in the first playoff game for several key players on their roster, including All-Star big man Alperen Sengun, Jalen Green, Jabari Smith Jr. and Amen Thompson. After trailing by 20+ points in the third, Houston staged a rally in the fourth quarter that brought the Warriors’ lead down to two ball possessions. But like all inexperienced team, the Rockets fizzled out at the most crucial moment of the game, allowing the Warriors to steal home court advantage.
