It’s an all-French affair in the third round of the 2024 Shanghai Masters as old guard Gael Monfils tests the mettle of his younger compatriot Ugo Humbert on Monday. Monfils turned the hands of time once again after he delivered yet another vintage performance to upend Sebastian Baez of Argentina 6-3 4-6 6-4 in the second round. After posting a 6-4, 6-3 win against Damir Dzumhur, Monfils sustained his fine play by launching an all-out attack on the Argentine, firing 15 aces and winning 71 percent of his first serves. Monfils also captured four breakpoints to ice the match. Humbert also advanced to the next round following 6-3, 6-2 victory over another Frenchman Arthur Cazaux. Humbert, who placed runner-up at the Japan Open, won 84 percent of his first serves while landing seven aces.
