Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina vies for a seat in the semifinal of the 2025 Munich Open against veteran David Goffin of Belgium on Friday.
Cerundolo has carried his fine play in Miami into the European clay court swing, winning three of his last four matches. The Argentinian only reached the second round of the 2025 Monte Carlo Masters, but her early exit was a case of bad luck since he got drawn into the same bracket as heavy favorites Carlos Alcaraz. Alcaraz, who escaped with a 3-6 6-0 6-1 win over Cerundolo in the second round, would capture the Monte Carlo Masters crown.
Goffin, meanwhile, continued to defy father time, gutting out two hard-earned three-set victories over Billy Harris 6-2 6-7(2) 6-4 and Mariano Navone 0-6 7-5 6-1 to reach the final 8. The 34-year-old Goffin is 8-10 in the season but remains a dangerous opponent to anyone in this tourney because of his experience and a 65.3 percent win rate on the red dirt.

This is an easy one. Francisco Cerundolo’s incredible year has translated smoothly on clay, playing tremendously well in both tournaments. His sustained form over the first three and a half months of the year makes him a dark horse contender in every tournament he will compete in leading up to the French Open in May. Goffin isn’t going to be an easy opponent because he’s bringing with him the experience and pedigree of a seasoned ATP player. Still, I don’t think he can handle Cerundolo’s red-hot form.
