Florida Panthers vs Edmonton Oilers Prediction & Picks - NHL
by Dan Angell | in NHL Picks
The Florida Panthers (67-27-8 SU, 49-53 ATS) attempt to win their first Stanley Cup in team history by completing the sweep of the Edmonton Oilers (61-35-7 SU, 44-59 ATS). Once again, the Panthers successfully shut down the Oilers' power play, blanking Edmonton for the third time in the series. The Oilers are a combined 0-for-10 with the man advantage, sapping them of their biggest strength. Prior to the series, Edmonton had converted on 19 of 51 power play opportunities, but nothing has worked against Florida.
The one thing that gives Edmonton hope is the way the third period went in Game 3. The Panthers seemed to take their foot off the gas slightly, and the Oilers almost made them pay. But the Panthers never lost the lead and never let Edmonton really think it had evened things up. Unless Edmonton comes out with a stronger effort in the first period, it's hard to see a path back.

Florida Panthers - Edmonton Oilers: Form Analysis
The legend of Playoff Bob has taken on a life of its own, but there hasn't been anywhere near as much time spent on what Sam Bennett has done in the playoffs. The Panthers' forward was one of the few players who was ready for the big time last year, as he scored 15 points over the course of Florida's run to the Stanley Cup Finals.
This year, Bennett has picked up where he left off. In the Finals, he's scored a point in every game, and since he came back from injury following the Tampa Bay series, he's scored in all but three of Florida's contests. And yet, Bennett still isn't getting the respect he deserves as a scorer. He's still getting better than even money to score a point of any kind while he's riding a six-game point streak and eight points in nine games.

Florida Panthers & Edmonton Oilers Squad Analysis
Sergei Bobrovsky continues to dominate the play, as he's made save after save on the Oilers in this series. Edmonton's 35 shots on goal were a series high, but Bobrovsky and the Panthers have made sure most of the shots have been of poor quality. If this continues, he's likely to win the Conn Smythe as the most valuable player.

Our Florida Panthers vs Edmonton Oilers Prediction
Edmonton has tried just about everything, but nothing has gone according to plan. Connor McDavid has been limited to three assists, while Leon Draisaitl has been held scoreless in three games. The Oilers don't have the depth to hang with Florida, and they've shown that the two games the Panthers won in the regular season were no fluke.
The biggest differences between the teams has been depth and determination. Edmonton hasn't been here before and hasn't had the same level of determination as Florida. The Panthers seem to have been on a mission ever since Vegas waxed them last year. Florida is one step away from officially proving its point and making franchise history. Our prediction for Florida vs. Edmonton is for the Panthers to win.
Florida Panthers vs Edmonton Oilers - Other Interesting Picks
Sam Bennett Anytime Goal
Bennett scoring a goal carries much better odds than scoring a point, and recent trends suggest it's likely. He's lit the lamp in four of the Panthers' past six games. During the regular season, Bennett was equally likely to score a goal or assist, as he scored 20 goals and 21 assists, and he's put home seven goals and six assists in the postseason.
Not only is Bennett a good bet to score, but he's done a lot of his work in a 5-on-5 situation. For all of the Oilers' struggles, the penalty kill has been one of Edmonton's biggest strengths. The Oilers have given up just one power play goal in their past 11 games, as Stuart Skinner has stood tall when his team has needed him most. Bennett will get plenty of 5-on-5 chances, and taking him to score a goal carries a big reward.
