The Paris 2024 Olympic Games finally open their doors this weekend, and tennis is about to get underway on the legendary Roland Garros courts. In this first round, Canadian and top 20 member Felix Auger-Aliassime takes on American Marcos Giron for a place in the last 16. Felix Auger-Aliassime is fresh from the clay-court tournament in Gstaad, where he won his Round of 8 match against Yannick Hanfmann in 2 sets before losing to Matteo Berrettini.

At the French Open Grand Slam last May, the Canadian had performed very well as the number 21 seed, winning his first 3 rounds against Yoshihito Nishioka, Henri Squire and Ben Shelton (ranked 14th in the world) before playing Carlos Alcaraz in the last 8. He should be looking for another string of victories on these same courts during the Olympics, this time as the number 13 seed.

For his part, Marcos Giron is back on clay at these Olympics after having played numerous matches on grass. He was a quarter-finalist in Halle and more recently a finalist at last week's Newport tournament against Alex Michelsen, ranked 61st in the world. On clay, the American seems to be struggling, having lost 3 times in a row prior to the grass court switch and never making it past the first round at the French Open, losing out to Jozef Kovalik.
