The American duo of Taylor Townsend and Donald Young can complete a remarkable title-clinching run on Thursday should they figure out to beat No.3 seed Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori in the championship match of the mixed doubles event at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing Meadows, Queens, New York. Young will get another chance to win a Grand Slam title after he and partner Santiago Fernandez fell short in the men's doubles finals of the 2017 French Open. As for Townsend, who won the 2024 Wimbledon Open women's doubles title with partner Katerina Siniakova, she's on the cusp of winning a second Grand Slam title this year, but this time in the mixed doubles category. The Townsend and Donaldson tandem downed the duo of Aldila Sutjiadi of Indonesia and Rohan Bopanna of India 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinal round to punch their ticket to the championship match. Their opponent will be double legend Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori of Italy. Errani has recently completed a career golden slam in doubles after winning the gold with partner Jasmine Paolini in the women's doubles event at the Paris Olympics. Vavassori has established himself as men's and mixed doubles expert, having been in a number of Grand Slam doubles championship match. Errani and Vavassori prevented an All-American championship match after eliminating the tandem of Tyra Grant and Alexsandar Kovacevic 6-3, 7-5.
