Former US Open champion Emily Raducanu hopes to go into deeper rounds of the 2024 Eastbourne Internationals as she goes up against another tough American foe in Jessica Pegula. Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, claimed her ticket into the round of 16 of this WTA 500 grass-court tournament event following a master win over another former Grand Slam champion, Sloane Stephens, 6-4 6-0 on Tuesday. The 21-year-old Brit kept Sloane at bay throughout the match by winning 68 percent of the first serves and 67 percent of the breakpoints. Pegula, meanwhile, will be playing her first match of this tournament after accepting a first-round bye by virtue of her ranking. Pegula, ranked No.5 by the WTA, entered the Eastbourne International as the No.2 seed behind Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan. Pegula has just won her first grass-court tournament title a few days ago at the 2024 Berlin Ladies Open. She defeated Anna Kalinskaya of Russia in three grueling sets 6–7(0–7), 6–4, 7–6(7–3) to hoist the crown.
