It’s a high-stakes game for both sides as they look to secure postseason berths in their respective conferences. The Rangers are fifth in the Metropolitan Division with 70 points and will play the Blue Jackets on Saturday to extend their point total. They are level on points with the Blue Jackets and only 8 points behind the Devils, who have played an extra game.
The Oilers, meanwhile, are chasing the Golden Knights in the Pacific Division, sitting on second spot with 80 points, 5 points behind the leaders. For Edmonton, there’s no room for slip-ups in this matchup because the in-form Kings are just a point behind them in the standings. Even worse is that the Oilers have played two games more than the Kings. They won 2-1 in overtime against the Islanders on Friday and will want to win more convincingly this time.
