Ecuador vs Jamaica Prediction & Picks - Copa America
by Stephen Abiola | in Copa America Picks
Ecuador vs Jamaica on June 26 at Allegiant Stadium is the second matchup in CONMEBOL Copa America Group B. This group also includes Mexico and Venezuela. Historically, this matchup has always been close. The two sides have met thrice since 2009, with Ecuador winning once and drawing two. On paper, Jamaica has the trickiest schedule, playing against the group favorites Mexico in Game 1 before facing Ecuador. The Reggae Boys must pick up at least one win in these tough matchups to boost their chances of progressing out of the group. Both Jamaica and Ecuador have shown excellent progress recently. This is shaping up to be an intriguing encounter.

Ecuador - Jamaica: Form Analysis
Ecuador will look to lay down a marker in this event after playing second fiddle to heavyweights like Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico for a long time. They are fifth in the South American World Cup Qualifiers, a point behind Group B rivals Venezuela. The Yellows haven't lost any of their last five qualifier matches, winning three and drawing two. Ecuador has also played three games this month, winning against Bolivia and Honduras and losing by a solitary goal to Argentina. In the last six matches, they have scored 8 goals (1.33 goals per match) and have scored in five out of their last six matchups.
Jamaica is also in fine form heading into this regional tournament. They are second in Group E of their World Cup Qualifiers after winning their last two games against Dominica and the Dominican Republic. This Caribbean side was also impressive in the concluded CONCACAF Nations League, where they lost to the US in the semis. They went ahead to defeat Panama 1-0 in the third-place matchup. Jamaica has picked up four wins and a single loss in the last six games. In the process, they scored 7 (1.17 goals per game).

Ecuador & Jamaica Squad Analysis
In 2020, Ecuador appointed Gustavo Alfaro to lead them to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. However, he was later sacked after elimination from Group A. Former Qatar coach Felix Sanchez took over in March last year and has since introduced aggressive attacking play and solid defensive awareness. They'll count on their talismanic striker, Enner Valencia, to get the goals despite being goalless in the last four assignments. In midfield, Chelsea's Moises Caicedo will control the tempo and disrupt Jamaica's play. Rookie Kendry Paez is an exciting option on the right side alongside veteran Angel Mena.
Jamaica's attack suffered a serious setback after Aston Villa's Leon Bailey announced in March that he was unavailable for selection. He mentioned several reasons for this decision, including the federation's reluctance to play for his flight. In his absence, Clermont striker Shamar Nicholson will lead the line. He has scored 3 goals in the last two matches for Jamaica. West Ham's Michail Antonio should offer more experience and flair in attack. Coach Heimir Hallgrimsson certainly has a strong squad at his disposal.

Our Ecuador vs Jamaica Prediction
Ecuador is the obvious favorite in this matchup. The Yellows will seek to control the game's tempo from the midfield and create goal-scoring opportunities. Jamaica also lacks the international experience that Ecuador has in big competitions. But despite their frailties, Jamaica is a physical and athletic side. Players like Michail Antonio can be a handful to any defense. They are also quick on the counter and like exploiting pockets of space. So, we expect a closely contested matchup. Our prediction for Ecuador vs Jamaica: Under 2.5 goals.
Ecuador vs Jamaica - Other Interesting Picks
Enner Valencia to score
Ecuador will want to dictate play against Jamaica and create many scoring chances for their strikers. Enner Valencia should get on the scoring charts here despite not scoring in the last four matches. He is the country's all-time top goal scorer with 41 goals. That tally might increase against Jamaica.
