Before her semis win, Vekic outlasted a quartet of top opponents on her way to the finals, downing Lucia Bronzetti of Italy 6-3 6-4 and Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia 6-4 3-6 6-3 before receiving a walk-off win after her quarterfinal foe, Katerina Seniakova, retired due to injuries. Shnaider, meanwhile, upset Emma Navarro of the United States 7-5 2-6 6-3 to book her third career WTA finals. The left-handed Shnaider completed 65 percent of her first serves and won four breakpoints to pull off a gutsy semifinal win over Navarro. The Russian also topped several notable names en route to the finals, including three-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber 7-5 6-3 in the first round.
