Diana Shnaider opens her Miami Open campaign against fellow Russian Anna Blinkova on Friday.
Shnaider is set to play her first match in Miami after getting a bye to the second round. Ranked No.13 in the world, Shnaider hasn’t accomplished much through the first two and half months of 2025, compiling a subpar 7-7 slate in 14 matches. While her usual double partner, Mirra Andreeva, is on a tear right now after bagging back-to-back WTA 1000-level titles, Shnaider’s best finish this season so far is a quarterfinal stint at the 2025 Adelaide International.
same can be said for Anna Blinkova, who marches into Friday’s showdown with Shnaider with a 9-7 record in the year. Blinkova, who had two quarterfinal appearances this year in Austin and Linz, upended Kamilla Rakhimova in three sets 4-6 6-3 6-2 to snap a two-match skid.

Anna Blinkova at +4.5 games isn’t the safest pick, but I can live with it, considering how erratic Diana Shnaider is this year. Don’t get me wrong, Shnaider is an awesome young talent on the WTA Tour, but it’s also obvious she’s dealing with some form issues right now. Blinkova is far from impressive with a 9-7 slate, but she has won 3 of his last five matches, including that character-testing win over Rakhimova.
