The Detroit Pistons travel to South Beach on Wednesday looking to extend the Miami Heat’s misery to nine games.
The Pistons snapped a two-game skid with a 127-81 blowout win over the New Orleans Pelicans on March 17. Detroit imposed their will on both ends of the floor, shooting 54 percent from the field and holding the Pelicans to an ice-cold 32 percent field goal shooting. Cade Cunningham carried the starting five with 24 points and 8 assists. He was the only player on the Pistons starting five to score in double figures. Thankfully, the Pistons’ bench came to the rescue as Simone Fontecchio contributed 23 points while Malik Beasley, Dennis Schroder and Ronald Holand scored at least 10 points.
Things have gone south since the Heat traded Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors. In March, the Heat has plunged to a 1-9 record with their lone win this month coming from one of the worst teams in the East standing, the Washington Wizards. Andrew Wiggins, the centerpiece of the trade package from the Warriors, did not play the Heat’s 95-116 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies due to a leg injury.
