Daniil Medvedev of Russia will attempt to take his campaign into the quarterfinal round as he faces Alex De Minaur of Australia in the third round of the 2025 Monte Carlo Open on Thursday.

Medvedev is through to the round of 16 in Monte Carlo after outgunning Alexandre Muller of France 7-6(6) 5-7 6-2. The Russian kept his composure despite blowing a chance to sweep Muller in the second set, holding all his serves and breaking twice in the deciding set to fend off Muller’s upset bid. The win means Medvedev matched his third-round appearance last year in Monaco and he will have a chance to reach his first quarterfinal in this tourney for the first time since 2023 if he hurdles De Minaur.

De Minaur aims to reach the Monte Carlo Masters quarterfinals for the second straight year in his upcoming battle with Medvedev, whom he trails 3-7 in their head-to-head series. The Aussie advanced to the third round with a testy three-set victories over Tomas Machac of Czech Republic 3-6 6-0 6-3. De Minaur earned most of his points from his serves, winning 33 points off his first serves and 20 points off his second. He also scored 27 return points, which led to four breakpoint conversions.
