Meanwhile, Krejčíková kicked off her Wimbledon Open run with a gritty win over Veronika Kudermetova of Russia 7-6(4) 6-7(1) 7-5 in the first round before surviving another all-out battle with Katie Volynets of the United States 7-6(6) 7-6(5) in the second round. Buoyed by a strong start, Krejčíková built a 6-0 4-3 lead in her round-of-16 match with Jessica Bouzas Maneiro before the Spaniard retired due to injuries.
