Carlos Alcaraz of Spain aims for another quarterfinal stint when he goes head-to-head with upset-minded Daniel Altmaier of Germany in Thursday’s round of 16 clash at the 2025 Monte Carlo Masters.
Alcaraz booked his place in the third round with a come-from-behind victory over Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina 3-6 6-0 6-1 in the second round. Alcaraz bounced back from an error-riddled first set by winning all his last seven serves and capturing five breakpoints. Alcaraz landed only 54 percent of his first serves, from which he still managed to earn 28 points.
Altmaier reached the round of 16 of the Monte Carlo Open for the first time ever after besting veteran Richard Gasquet 7-5 5-7 6-2. After upsetting Felix Auger-Aliassime in the first round 7-6(5) 6-3, the German qualifier picked up where he left off as he continued to find success from his attack, generating 43 points off his first serves and breaking Gasquet seven times in the match.

Our Daniel Altmaier vs Carlos Alcaraz Prediction
Match Stats gives Carlos Alcaraz an overwhelming 86 percent winning probability against Daniel Altmaier, which I agree 100 percent because the Spaniard means business in this tournament. However, I see a really intriguing opportunity to earn big from this particular match by placing a bet on Altmaier +5.5 games. Altmaier has zero chance to win this match but I feel he’s going to present a stiffer challenge to Alcaraz than Cerundolo did in the second round. Altmaier lost to Alcaraz 6-1 7-6(6) in their first and only encounter to date in the semifinal of the 2020 Cordenons Challenger. The Spaniard has improved by leaps and bounces since that day, becoming a bona fide superstar in men’s tennis. However, despite Alcaraz’s status as a top-ranked player, he is still vulnerable to some occasional slipups, which open the door for other players to capitalize and pull off rare upsets. While I don’t believe Altmaier can subdue Alcaraz, the German possesses the skills and momentum to compete with the world’s No.1 all the way down to the last point. Our betting prediction for Carlos Alcaraz vs. Daniel Altmaier: Daniel Altmaier +5.5 Games.
