Turkey and the Czech Republic meet in a pivotal Group F clash on Wednesday. Portugal have already been confirmed as group winners, but both Turkey and the Czechs can still join them in the last 16. Turkey are in pole position with three points from their opening two games, but victory for the Czechs will see them leapfrog their rivals into second place. Both sides also have a chance to qualify as one of the best third place teams. They will also be hoping that Portugal do them a big favour by defeating Georgia in the other Group F game being played on Wednesday.

The Czech Republic's last gasp 2-1 defeat to Portugal on Gameday One is their only loss in the last nine games. They finished second behind Albania in their qualification group, missing out on top spot on goal difference. Their record at recent European Championships is a mixed bag. They reached the semi finals in 2004, the quarter finals in 2012 and 2020, but failed to make it out of the group stage in 2008 and 2016. Their only ever major tournament success came at the 1976 championships when they defeated Germany on penalties in the final.

Turkey are in the midst of a poor run of form. Their 3-1 victory over Georgia on Gameday One is their only victory in seven games. During that run, they have conceded an average of two goals per game, whilst managing only six goals themselves. At the last two European Championships, Turkey have failed to make it out of the group. losing five of their six games in the process. Their best performance at the Euros came in 2008, when they reached the semi finals. During that tournament, they scored two goals in the last three minutes to defeat the Czechs 3-2 in their final group game.

The Czech Republic are sweating on the fitness of star striker Patrik Schick, who suffered a minor calf strain in the 1-1 draw with Georgia. Ondřej Lingr is the most likely replacement if Schick fails to prove his fitness. Aside from that issue, the Czechs may bring attacking midfielders David Douděra and Antonín Barák into the team, as they look to claim a victory and a place in the last 16. Several Czech players, including Tomáš Holeš, David Jurásek and Tomáš Souček are one yellow card away from suspension, but they are all expected to play. 

Teenage sensation Arlu Guler is expected to return to the Turkish starting line up, after being surprisingly rested for the Portugal game. They may also make changes to their backline, after a calamitous defensive display in that game. Mert Günok could return in goal, whilst Merih Demiral and İsmail Yüksek are pushing for starting places. Three Turkey players are one card away from suspension, including star midfielder Hakan Çalhanoğlu.
