The 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup qualifiers begin on Friday, as Cuba host Trinidad and Tobago in a very even looking matchup. The two teams last met back in October 2024, when goals from Dantaye Gilbert, Joevin Jones and Real Gill gave Trinidad a 3-1 victory in an all ill-tempered game that saw Cuba's Karel Perez receive a red card late on. That result meant Trinidad retained their spot in Concacaf Nations League A, whilst Cuba were consigned to a relegation play off against St Kitts and Nevis.
After losing the first leg of that play off 2-1, Cuba rebounded to thrash their opponents 4-0 in the second leg, a result that meant they retained their place in Concacaf Nations League A. Cuba have not played since those November play off fixtures, Trinidad warmed up for the Gold Cup with two February friendlies against Jamaica. Despite not winning either of the games, new head coach Dwight Yorke will have been encouraged by his team's performances and they will go into this two legged qualifier confident of progressing.

This is probably the toughest Gold Cup qualifier to call this week and whilst the bookies have Trinidad as marginal favorites, we think this is going to end up all square. Trinidad did have the edge when the teams met in October, but their subsequent results have been less encouraging and they are struggling to find a consistent goalscoring. Goals have also been an issue for Cuba (notwithstanding the 4-0 play off win over a weak St Kitts side), so we think the value lies in backing a low scoring draw.
