The pressure is building in the WTA BNP Paribas Open tournament! In this round of 8, local American Coco Gauff and Switzerland's Belinda Bencic battle it out for a place in the quarter-finals. Seeded number 3, Coco Gauff is experiencing some difficulties in this 2025 season. After an interesting run at the Australian Open, where she reached the quarter-finals, the American has been less successful, having been a semi-finalist last year. Since losing to Paula Badosa without winning a set, the 20-year-old has suffered 2 further defeats in the first rounds of the Doha and Dubai tournaments. 

Belinda Bencic, meanwhile, reached the last eight at the Australian Open and was prevented from reaching the quarter-finals by a certain Coco Gauff in a 3-set duel. This defeat is still fresh in the minds of both players, and is unlikely to go in the Swisswoman's favor. But the latter was excellent at the Abu Dhabi tournament, where she won the title against Ashlyn Krueger (world no. 41). Here, she lost just one set in her first 3 rounds to top 20 Amanda Anisimova, and stopped Tatjana Maria (world no. 87) and Diana Shnaider (world no. 13) in 2 sets in her other duels.
