The Colorado Rockies (41-70) are looking to start August off with a 3-game winning streak on Saturday. They are technically on a 3-game streak already as they defeated the Angels in their last 2 games of the previous series and then defeated these San Diego Padres (59-52) yesterday. The Rockies used a 3 run 6th inning to pull away in game one. Austin Gomber pitched 7 strong innings for Colorado, allowing just 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 6. Tonight, they will use Tanner Gordon (0-3, 8.80) on the mound. Gordon has lost all 3 of his starts this season but did have hist “best” outing last start. He allowed 4 through 6 innings against the Mets. He will be opposed by the Padres’ Martin Perez (2-5, 5.20). He went 6 innings of shutout ball in his last start which came against the Cardinals. Perez scattered 4 hits but walked 5 batters. Perez has now walked 10 batters over his last 14.1 innings pitched. The Padres, as a team, had won 9 of their last 10 games to end the month of July but obviously lost their 1st game of August to this Rockies team.
