The Cincinnati Reds (43-48 SU, 49-42 ATS) host the Colorado Rockies (32-59 SU, 44-47 ATS) as they attempt to prove where they fall in the National League playoff race. Are the Reds the team that swept the New York Yankees in the Bronx, seemingly making a statement that they belong in the mix for the NL Central? Or are they the team that returned home and promptly fell flat on their faces against the Detroit Tigers?
This series isn’t likely to tell much either way, because Colorado has been the opponent Cincinnati needs when it wants to start a heater. The Rockies haven’t beaten the Reds since May 2023, a streak that now spans seven straight games. Granted, Colorado doesn’t get many cracks at Cincinnati because the teams only meet six or seven times a year, but the fact is that the Reds have dominated this matchup lately.

If this series doesn’t break Cincinnati out of its slump, it’s hard to imagine what will. The Reds haven’t won a series at Great American Ball Park since beating the Cubs on June 8, and their only home sweeps of the season have come against the two Los Angeles teams.
Sending Nick Lodolo to the mound has tended to mean two things: the Reds will have a chance to win, and there won’t be a lot of scoring involved. Lodolo has won five of his past six starts, and in each start, he got five runs or less from his offense. It didn’t matter because he gave up two runs or fewer each time, and Colorado isn’t exactly putting up big numbers itself. Based on the lack of value on the moneyline and Lodolo’s recent showings, our prediction for Colorado vs. Cincinnati is Reds -1.5.
