Colombia vs Costa Rica Prediction & Picks - Copa America
by Simon Day | in Copa America Picks
Colombia and Costa Rica meet in Arizona on Friday, in a game that is likely to go a long way towards deciding who progresses from Group D. Costa Rica started their campaign with a hugely impressive 0-0 draw against Brazil. They had to ride their luck at times, and were thankful for some dire Brazilian finishing, but overall it was a superb rearguard effort that stands them in good stead for the rest of the tournament. Colombia also enjoyed a successful start to the tournament, beating Paraguay 2-1, thanks to goals from Crystal Palace duo Jefferson Lerma and Daniel Munoz.Limited Offer. Currently at BetMGM

Colombia - Costa Rica: Form Analysis
Colombia are one of the form teams at the Copa America and are undefeated in their last 24 games. During that 2 year run, they have picked up impressive victories over the likes of Spain, Brazil and Germany, all whilst playing an exciting brand of football under head coach Néstor Lorenzo. Colombia's record in recent Copa Americas is also strong. They have finished third in two of the last three tournaments, and have failed to make it out of the group stage just once since 1989.
Costa Rica are also in good form this year, winning four and drawing two of their seven games. Their opening day draw with Brazil means they have now kept four consecutive clean sheets. However, it is worth noting that two of those games have been against fairly weak opposition in the form of St Kitts & Nevis and Grenada. This is Costa Rica's first Copa America campaign since 2016, as they were not invited to take part in the 2021 or 2019 tournaments. Their best ever performances at the competition came in 2001 and 2004, when they reached the quarter finals. They have played Colombia four times previously at the Copa America, winning just one of those games.

Colombia & Costa Rica Squad Analysis
A huge bonus for Colombia in the victory over Paraguay was the performance of talismanic midfielder James Rodriguez. The playmaker assisted both Colombian goals and was a constant threat throughout the game. He will once again line up in the number ten role behind Luis Díaz and Rafael Borré. In defence, Jhon Lucumí and Davinson Sánchez will continue their formidable centre back partnership, which means veteran Yerry Mina will once again have to start from the b bench.
Probable starting eleven: Camilo Vargas; Daniel Muñoz, Jhon Lucumí, Davinson Sánchez, Johan Mojica; Mateus Uribe, Jefferson Lerma, Jhon Arias, James Rodríguez: Luis Díaz, Rafael Borré.
Costa Rica are likely to remain unchanged following the heroic draw with Brazil. However, they will be looking for their midfield stars such as Jefferson Brenes and Ariel Lassiter, to provide more of an attacking threat. Up front, Manfred Ugalde will be the main threat. The young Spartak Moscow striker has scored three times in his 10 international appearances, and has the potential to make a significant contribution for Los Ticos this Summer.
Possible starting eleven: Patrick Sequeira; Jeyland Mitchell, Juan Pablo Vargas, Francisco Calvo; Haxzel Quirós, Orlando Galo, Jefferson Brenes, Ariel Lassiter, Brandon Aguilera; Álvaro Zamora, Manfred Ugalde.

Our Colombia vs Costa Rica Prediction
It's impossible to bet against Colombia at the minute. They are one of the form teams in world football and look capable of going all the way in the tournament. The same cannot be said for Costa Rica, who will once again line up in a very defensive formation. However, they proved to be no pushovers against Brazil, so expect them to put up another resolute showing here. We're tipping a Colombian victory, but not expecting a flurry of goals.
Our prediction for Colombia vs Costa Rica is: Colombia to win and under 2.5 goals, +215 at BetMGM.
