Trying to prove that age is just a number, Stan Wawrinka will go for a seat in the third round of the 2024 Shanghai Masters against Italian young star Flavio Cobolli on Monday. Wawrinka, the three-time Grand Slam winner, ended his three-match losing streak on Saturday after outdueling Giovanni Mpteshi Perricard 7-6(2) 7-6(6) in the first round. The Swiss leaned on his experience and on-point service game to win 36 points on his first serves and 26 on his second. Wawrinka’s last title on the hard court came at the 2016 US Open championship, where he defeated Novak Djokovic 6–7(1–7), 6–4, 7–5, 6–3 in the final. Meanwhile, Cobolli is fresh off a quarterfinal finish at the China Open. The Italian stunned No.8 seed Alexander Bublik 4-6 6-1 7-6(4) and blew by Peter Kotov 6-4 6-2 in the first two rounds before falling to Daniil Medvedev 6-2 6-4 in the final eight.
