In a matchup that not many believed would occur, the Clemson Tigers face the Alabama Crimson Tide Saturday night in the Elite 8 with the winner heading to the Final Four. Whoever does win, it will be their 1st trip to the Final Four in program history. Clemson had a shot in 1980 while the Tide fell short in 2004. This should be a matchup of contrasting styles. The Tide love to get up and down the floor quickly while the Tigers like to slow things down and play a half court game. Whichever team can control tempo is likely to come out on top.

Clemson comes into this contest having defeated the 3 seed Baylor and 2 seed Arizona. After jumping out early on Arizona, they kept fending off a Wildcats team that kept crawling back into it. It was impressive how the Tigers stayed resilient and found a way late to pull away. Bama had yet to be tested after defeating Charleston and Grand Canyon before facing off with the top seeded North Carolina Tarheels on Thursday night. The Tide dictated the pace and got into a track meet that they were able to put the finishing touches late to send the first 1 seed of the tournament.

Both teams look to be healthy as they head into this Elite 8 matchup. For the Tigers, it has been PJ Hall and Ian Schieffelin taking turns playing Robin to Chase Hunter’s Batman. Hunter is averaging 19.6ppg and 5.6apg. What does not show up on the stats sheets though is their ability to defend, and that is what could be the difference maker. For Bama, it has been Mark Sears leading the way with 24.6ppg. However, in the last game, it was Grant Nelson who stepped into the spotlight. While Bama has one of the best offenses in the country, this Clemson team is no slouch and rank 24th. With both teams being able to put up solid numbers on the offensive end, we believe it will be the prowess of the Clemson defense that makes the difference in this one.
