The Cincinnati Reds (14-11 SU, 13-12 ATS) open a three-game series with the Texas Rangers (13-13 SU, 13-13 ATS) and seem to have the right pitcher on the mound for this game. For whatever reason, Graham Ashcraft has been much more comfortable away from Great American Ball Park than he is pitching at home. Even though he’s a ground-ball pitcher, he’s pitched his worst in short-fence Great American and at Citizens Bank Park in 2024.
In two home starts, his ERA is 8.44, giving up 10 earned runs in his two games in Cincinnati. In two road starts, he’s given up three earned runs, and two of them were solo home runs to the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. In more pitcher-friendly Arlington, Ashcraft should be able to showcase more of his stronger stuff.

While Ashcraft has been better away, Eovaldi has been a sharper pitcher at home. He’s recorded a 2.31 ERA in his home starts this year, while giving up 3.93 per nine innings on the road. He also hasn’t received a ton of support at the plate, as his team has given him more than four runs just once in five starts. Even that didn’t matter; Eovaldi got lit up by Houston and the Rangers ended up with an 8-5 loss.
One thing that should help Eovaldi in this game is Cincinnati’s tendency to get itself out. The Reds have the fifth-highest strikeout total in the majors, and it’s not from swinging for the fences constantly. The Reds average of just .222 isn’t much to write home about; they just do a good job of working out walks and cashing in those runners.
