The Atlanta Braves’ playoff push continues as they commence their third consecutive home series against the Cincinnati Reds on Monday at Great American Ball Park. The Braves claimed an important 4-3 win on Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays behind Sean Murphy’s clutch RBI single in the 11th inning. The win moved Atlanta (78-65) back into a tie with the New York Mets for the last wild card spot in the National League. The Braves are averaging only 3.7 runs per game over their last five games but their impeccable 1.97 ERA has kept them afloat in those games. The Reds snapped a two-game slide with a 3-1 win over the Mets. Santiago Espinal delivered a two-run double to break the tie in the 9th inning, securing the Reds its fifth win in seven games. Cincinnati (69-75), who is 1.5 games ahead of the fifth-placed Pittsburgh Pirates (67-76), is trying to avoid finishing last in the NL Central division.

Morton (4-1 with 3.25 ERA in last 5 starts) should bolster Atlanta’s chance of snapping a two-game losing streak against the Reds, but their batting woes these past five games would make any bettor worried about their capability to cover the -1.5-run spread or even win against the team they are struggling to beat as of late.
