Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria will attempt to arrest a three-match slide as he plays Christopher O’Connell of Australia in Tuesday's first round of the 2025 Dubai Tennis Championship. After a promising semifinal stint at the Brisbane International early this year, Dimitrov has bombed out in the first round of his last two tournaments. He got upset by Francesco Passaro of Italy 7-5 2-1 ret. at the Australian Open and lost to Jiri Lehecka of Czech Republic 6-4 6-4 at the Qatar Open. Dimitrov had suffered a groin and hip injury in his semifinal match with Lehecka at the Brisbane. That injury continued to bother him at the Australian Open, prompting him to retire. O’Connell earned his fifth win in six matches by besting Botic Van De Zandschulp of the Netherlands 7-65 6-4 in the final qualifier of the 2025 Dubai Tennis Championship. O’Connell made it to the round of 16 of the 2025 Qatar Open, where he fell to Jack Draper 2-6, 1-6.
