There's another all US affair at the ATP event in Newport, Rhode Island later today, one that sees Christopher Eubanks and Marcos Giron go head-to-head. The latter is quite a steady favorite in the early betting, which may seem right given that he's the higher-ranked player, but I take issue with that. Since his impressive performance at Wimbledon last year, where he beat some very good players such as Tsitsipas and Norrie, before taking one of the best in the business in Daniil Medvedev to five sets, Eubanks has lost his way a little, but he's looked in decent form in Newport over the last week, playing some very solid grass-court tennis.
We know that on his day, the 28-year-old is a much better player than his current rank suggests, while we know he can tussle with the best on grass. Marcos Giron is a decent competitor, but he's had two easy matches to get to this semi-final, while I'd argue that Eubanks has had to achieve more to get here, beating Vukic last time out. Frankly, I don't agree with the odds disparity between the two players and simply believe that Eubanks has a greater chance of success than the early odds suggest. Therefore, taking Eubanks to win at BetMGM odds of +155 offers clear value for money. Our Prediction: Christopher Eubanks to Win.
