The Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins kick off a three-game series on Tuesday in what's shaping up to be a basement battle in the AL Central. Neither team has found its footing early in the 2025 season, with the White Sox sitting at the very bottom of the division with a 5-17 record, while the Twins haven't fared much better at 7-14, just one spot ahead.
Chicago enters this series fresh off a 4-2 loss on the road to the Boston Red Sox on Monday, continuing what has been a rough stretch for a team that simply hasn't found consistency on either side of the ball. Meanwhile, the Twins are also licking their wounds after being swept by the Atlanta Braves over the weekend.
It was a disappointing outcome considering Atlanta has struggled themselves in the early going. In Sunday's finale, Minnesota briefly showed life with a seventh-inning homer from Byron Buxton, but ultimately fell short, losing 6-2.

Tuesday's series opener features a pitching matchup between two right-handers in Bailey Ober for Minnesota and Davis Martin for Chicago. Neither has lit the world on fire this season, but Martin has been marginally more reliable. Ober, 29, comes in with a 6.16 ERA over four starts, allowing five home runs and a total of 13 earned runs across those appearances. His control has been decent—17 strikeouts against six walks—but the long ball has been a persistent issue. He's coming off one of his better starts, however, having tossed 6.1 innings and giving up just three earned runs in a win over the Mets.
Davis Martin, on the other hand, has posted a 4.84 ERA through four outings, with 13 strikeouts and the same number of walks as Ober. While not dominant, he's been serviceable, and his numbers suggest slightly better command and damage control. In his most recent start, Martin went 5.1 innings and gave up four earned runs in a loss to the Oakland Athletics.
Though both teams have struggled, the matchup is closer than the records suggest. The Twins may have a slight edge on paper, but with Ober's inconsistency and tendency to give up home runs, the White Sox have a real chance to open this series with a competitive showing. Chicago might not be a powerhouse, but they're not massively outmatched either—and if Martin can keep things under control, the White Sox could steal one here.
