The Los Angeles Kings (43-27-11 SU, 40-41 ATS) host the Chicago Blackhawks (23-53-5 SU, 35-46 ATS) in the season finale for both teams. For the Blackhawks, it’s the conclusion of a long and wretched season where the team made no attempt to win. Chicago’s goal was to get its young players through the season in one piece and give itself the best chance at adding another high draft pick. The Blackhawks will end the season with their lowest point total in a full season since 1957, when there were only six teams and the NHL only played 70 games.
They’ll likely provide little resistance against the Kings, who need this game to have any chance at third place in the Pacific Division. Los Angeles makes the playoffs either way, but unless they better Vegas’ result against Anaheim, the Kings will finish as the second wild card and open against top seed Dallas in the first round. Winning and getting some help would earn a matchup with Edmonton, which might be a slightly easier task.

There’s no reason for the Kings to hold back here. Los Angeles has dominated Chicago this season, as most teams have. The Kings could opt to rest players for the playoffs, but considering Los Angeles went 0-3 against Dallas and got outscored 13-3 in those games, the Kings really don’t want to face the Stars in round one. The Oilers don’t represent a great matchup, but Los Angeles at least beat Edmonton once this year.
If the Kings are focused, they should rip through the Blackhawks. Chicago doesn’t have anything to play for and isn’t getting much of anything to the net right now. In six of the Blackhawks’ past seven games, they’ve scored two goals or less and haven’t come close to a victory. They should be the perfect opponent for the Kings in this game.
