Crystal Palace had a disappointing start to the Premier League campaign, losing their first two games, but even more worryingly, they lost to Brentford and West Ham, two direct rivals. The good news for them, however, is that four other teams failed to pick up a point in their first two league games and they bounced back from two defeats with a good first performance, beating Norwich City in the Carabao Cup. But the 4-0 result also came with their summer signing Riad being out injured for a while.

They will face a new Chelsea side led by Maresca who had already had his first criticism in what was a poor debut against Manchester City. In their second game they saw how in two periods of less than 25 minutes the lead they had achieved against Wolves was equalled by their rivals twice, but in a brilliant second half with a hat-trick from Maudeke assisted three times by Palmer and a goal from the newly arrived Joao Felix in what was a first good demonstration of what Chelsea are capable of doing in attack when there is understanding between the players.
