Taylor Fritz will gun for his second consecutive quarterfinal appearance at the US Open on Sunday, when he goes head-to-head with former finalist Casper Ruud in their round-of-16 match. Fritz notched his spot in the fourth round after besting Francisco Comesana of Argentina 6-3 6-4 6-2 in the third round. The American converted 81 percent of his first serves into points and broke Comesana four times in the match. The No.12 seed Fritz hasn’t dropped a set in the tournament yet, beating Camilo Carabelli 7-5 6-1 6-2 and Matteo Berrettini 6-3 7-6(1) 6-1 also in straight sets. Ruud went through the eye of the needle to reach the round-of-16 of the 2024 US Open. Norway’s No.1 defeated Bu Yunchaokete 7-6(2) 6-2 6-2 and Gael Monfils 6-4 6-2 2-6 7-6(3) before outlasting Juncheng Shang 6-7(1) 3-6 6-0 6-3 6-1 in five sets.
