In this quarter-final of the Shanghai Masters 1000, Spaniard and top 3 seed Carlos Alcaraz takes on Czech Tomas Machac for a place in the semi-finals. Carlos Alcaraz, seeded number 3, has won all his matches here in just 2 sets. He won his first match against Juncheng Shang in less than 17 games, then against Yibing Wu, before stopping Frenchman Gaël Monfils for the 3rd time. These last 3 victories mean that the Spaniard is currently on a 12-match winning streak, having just claimed the title at the Beijing Masters 1000 against world number 1 Jannik Sinner. 

For his part, Tomas Machac lost an opening set in his first-round match against world No. 64 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. In the end, he won his Round of 16 match against Aleksandar Vukic, ranked 91st in the world, in just 2 sets. The Czech then sprang a surprise in the Round of 16, stopping number 11 seed Tommy Paul after the American had won the first set and had to come from behind in a duel lasting over 2 hours. Having been eliminated in the first round in Montreal and Cincinnati, the Czech seems to be in better form in this Chinese tournament, but this should not be enough to upset his Spanish opponent, who seems to be in top form.
