Carlos Alcaraz of Spain begins his Wimbledon Open title defense against Mark Lajal of Estonia in the first round of the gentlemen's singles tournament at All-England Club. Alcaraz, the 2023 Wimbledon Open winner, will be defending the crown and the 2,000 ATP world ranking points in this tournament. The Spaniard became the youngest to complete a career Surface Slam after he reigned supreme on the red dirt of Roland Garros last June. Alcaraz played in one pre-Wimbledon grass court event at the 2024 Cinch Open, where he suffered a second-round upset at the hands of Britain’s Jack Draper in straight sets 7-6(3) 6-3. As for Lajal, he participated in two grass-court events this season but failed to reach the main draw of those tournaments. Thankfully, he racked up three consecutive wins in the Wimbledon in the qualifiers, including a straight sets win over James Duckworth of Australia 6-4 6-4 6-4 to enter the main draw.
