Alcaraz of Spain will try to stay hot as he begins his quest for a back-to-back ATP title against former US Open champion Marin Cilic in the first round of the 2025 ATP Qatar Open. Alcaraz, the recently-minted Rotterdam Champion, is eyeing another hardware in the Middle East, particularly in Qatar, where heavy hitters like Novak Djokovic, Andrey Rublev and Stefanos Tsitsipas are also participating. However, one glaring absence on the lineup of competitors this year is Jannik Sinner, the world’s No.1 men’s singles player who will miss the next three months after accepting a three-year ban imposed by WADA. With Sinner out of the equation, many tennis pundits think Alcaraz’s road to another title gets a lot wider. Cilic is 1-5 since ruling the Hangzhou Open in late September. The former US Open winner has been plagued with inconsistency and injuries over the last few months, which has prevented him from showcasing his old form. The Croatian will make his 2025 ATP season debut against none other than the five-time Grand Slam winner.

Alcaraz’s performance in Rotterdam is far from the peak form we witnessed from April to June, but he’s still too good for more than 95 percent of players on the ATP Tour.
