Carlos Alcaraz of Spain will take on Gael Monfils of France in a rematch of the second round of the 2024 Cincinnati Masters that saw the ATP veteran pulling off a gargantuan upset over the Spaniard in three sets. Alcaraz made sure he got his shot at revenge against Monfils after dispatching Yibing Yu of China 7-6(5) 6-3. Alcaraz, who also eliminated another competitor from China, Juncheng Shang, in the previous round, came out on top of a competitive first set before methodologically wearing Yu down in the second. Meanwhile, Monfils racked up his third consecutive victory of the tournament after outdueling compatriot Ugo Humbert 7-6(7) 2-6 6-1. Monfils won 47 points on his first serves and fired aces to reach the round of 16 of the Shanghai Masters.
