The second round of the US Open Grand Slam between top 5 Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz and Dutchman Botic Van De Zandschulp. Carlos Alcaraz, seeded number 3, won his first round match against qualifier Li Tu, but lost the second set. The Spaniard will be looking to improve on his performance in the second round, losing just a handful of games. Competing in this New York Grand Slam for the 4th time, he has never made less than the quarter-finals, winning in 2022 and reaching the semi-finals in 2023. A top performer in the Grand Slams this season, the Spaniard should quickly reach the last 16. 

For his part, Botic Van De Zandschulp played just one match on the hard surface this summer before entering the Grand Slam. He was eliminated in the first round in Winston-Salem by Frenchman Arthur Cazaux, ranked 91st in the world, without winning a set. A finalist at the Luedenscheid clay-court Challenger earlier this month, the Dutchman was seeded number 1, but lost to world No.199 Raphaël Collignon. These results are unlikely to enable him to compete with his opponent of the day, who is no stranger to tournaments at this level.
