Carlos Alcaraz of Spain battles Arthur Fils of France in Saturday’s semifinal at the Barcelona Open, which also serves as a rematch of last week’s quarterfinal showdown at the Monte Carlo Masters.
Alcaraz aims to score two wins in a row against Fils after escaping with a 4-6 7-5 6-3 win over the Frenchman in their encounter a week ago in Monaco. The world’s No.2 punched his ticket to the final eight with a convincing 7-5 6-3 win over Alex De Minaur of Australia in the quarterfinals. In that match, Alcaraz captured 31 points off his first serves and broke De Minaur’s serves four times to stay unbeaten against the Aussie in four career head-to-heads.
Meanwhile, Fils gets another opportunity to get back at Alcaraz a week after coming up short against the reigning French Open champion. Fils barged into the semifinal of the Barcelona Open with a win over Stefanos Tsitsipas, who retired while trailing 0-2 in the first set. Tsitsipas may have hurt his back at some point during the match.
