The Spaniard fired 40 winners and scored 107 points to overcome a strong challenge from Lajal in the first two sets. Meanwhile, Vukic outgunned Sabastian Ofner of Austria 6-7(9) 6-4 6-4 3-6 7-6(8) in easily the best first-round match of this year’s tournament. Vukic, who reached the second round of the Wimbledon Open for a second straight year, recorded 16 aces and 39 winners while saving 16-of-22 breakpoints (72 percent) in the grueling match that lasted three hours and 49 minutes.
