Uruguay will be looking to claim third place in Copa America 2024 this Saturday against Canada in the third-place match. La Celeste, winners of the competition on 15 occasions, will be looking to climb onto the 3rd step of the podium after an exceptional campaign that saw them finish 1st in the group phase and beat Brazil in the quarter-finals.
After their triumph over Brazil, a place in the semifinals seemed certain for Uruguay. Unfortunately for them, they hit a Colombian-sized roadblock which bumped them out of the finale.

Canada's first appearance at the Copa America was no fluke. U.S. coach Jesse Marsch can be proud of his team, who made it all the way to the last four after finishing second in Group A to Chile (0-0) and Peru (1-0).
A penalty shoot-out victory over Venezuela (1-1, 4 tab 3) in the quarter-finals was a major achievement, but Jonathan David's team-mates fell short in the semi-final against Argentina (0-2)... Uruguay, for their part, came very close to reaching their 22nd Copa America final, but the five-time winners of the event fell at the final hurdle against Colombia (0-1), despite being outnumbered for most of the second half. Uruguay have had an exceptional run and will be looking to finish third.
Leaders of their Group C after 3 wins over Panama (3-1), Bolivia (5-0) and the USA (1-0), La Celeste edged out last year's finalists Brazil in a penalty shoot-out after a rather dull match (0-0, 4 tab 2). Unfortunately, their subsequent performance against the Colombians proved insufficient.
