The Mustangs opened their season with a 59-7 rout of Houston Christian before gutting out a tough 29-24 win over Nevada to become the first 2-0 team in a loaded ACC conference. SMU quarterback Preston Stone has already covered 332 passing yards with three touchdowns, while his running back Brashard Smith has already tallied 175 yards with three TDs on 20 carries. The Cougars decimated Southern Illinois 41-13 to kick off their season on a strong note. Jake Retzlaff went for 348 passing yards with three TDs, and running back LJ Martin ran for 67 yards with one TD on 13 carries.
