Another of the more interesting matches due to take place at the WTA event in Miami on Friday is the one between Belinda Bencic and Elina Svitolina. In a way, this is a match between two fallen giants, players that both used to be near to the top of the WTA rankings, with Bencic once holding a ranking of fourth in the world, while Svitolina was once the world number three. Both players are looking to return to the top of the game, but will we see either do that?
It's definitely been a pleasing 2025 for Belinda Bencic, with the Swiss player winning the WTA event in Abu Dhabi, before playing well in Indian Wells, where she reached the quarter finals. She's since followed that up with a hard-fought win over Yastremska in the first round of this tournament and will now be looking to kick on, though beating someone like Svitolina won't be easy. Let's be honest, the Ukrainian has recently made life tough for some fantastic players such as Jessica Pegula and Danielle Collins, so she won't go down without a fight here.
