Belgium will be desperate to bounce back from their shock Gameday One defeat to Slovakia, when they face Romania in Cologne on Saturday. With many members of Belgium's Golden Generation in the latter stages of their careers, this tournament could be their last chance to finally claim major honours. However, getting back to winning ways will not be an easy task against a Romanian side who impressed in their 3-0 victory over Ukraine last time out. Another victory here would virtually guarantee the Romanians a place in the last 16, something that few fans thought possible coming into the tournament.

Belgium - Romania: Form Analysis
Prior to the defeat against Slovakia, Belgium had gone 11 games undefeated. They came through qualification with a hugely impressive record of six wins and two draws from their eight games. However, their record in recent tournaments has been slightly disappointing. At the 2022 World Cup they failed to make it out of the group stage, whilst at Euro 2020, they produced a limp display in their 2-1 quarter final exit to Italy.
Romania were also undefeated in qualification, claiming six wins and four draws to finish five points ahead of Switzerland. Remarkably, their victory over Ukraine was their first major tournament success since beating England 3-2 at Euro 2000. They have qualified for two European Championships since that famous win, but finished bottom of their group on both occasions.
Saturday's game will be just the third ever competitive game between the two sides. The other two matches occurred during qualification for the 1994 World Cup and resulted in one win each. Overall, the teams have met on 12 occasions, with each claiming five wins. Their last matchup was a 2012 friendly, which saw Romania emerge as 2-1 victors.

Belgium & Romania Squad Analysis
Belgium seem highly likely to make changes following the Slovakia defeat. Lois Openda impressed after coming off the bench, so he could be handed a starting role this time out. Youri Tielemans is also in contention for a start, as manager Domenico Tedesco looks to freshen up his midfield. Romelu Lukaku will continue up front, despite missing a host of chances last time out, as well as seeing two goals ruled out by VAR decisions.

Romania seem almost certain to name the same starting eleven that were so impressive against Ukraine. A key part of that victory was the imperious defensive performance of Radu Dragusin. The Spurs star was flawless in the middle of the Romanian defence, and was even instrumental in starting several attacks. Up front, Denis Dragus will once again lead the line after a fine goalscoring performance last time out.
