Fresh off big wins in the fourth round, Karolina Muchova and Beatriz Haddad Maia are set for a high-stake quarterfinal meeting on Wednesday at Arthur Ashe Stadium. After edging Elena Avanisyan in a three-set first-round match, Maia swept her next two opponents, defeating Sara Tormo 6-2, 6-1 and Ana Kalinskaya 6-3, 6-1. Facing a tennis legend in Caroline Wozniacki, Maia displayed poise and terrific shot-making ability in the fourth round to get past her future Hall-of-Fame opponent. The Brazilian produced 38 winners, 24 of which came from her big forehand shots that demoralized Wozniacki in some moments of their match.
