This weekend sees the eagerly-awaited King's Cup final! For the first time since 2014, we'll be treated to a Clasico, between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, for the final fixture in Spain's domestic cup. The match takes place this Saturday at 4:00 pm ET, at the Estadio de La Cartuja in Seville. FC Barcelona are enjoying a top-class season. Already winners of the Spanish Supercup, Barça will not be content with just one trophy this season. In addition to the King's Cup final, the Catalan club can still hope to win La Liga as well as the Champions League.
It's not quite the same story for Real Madrid! In La Liga, last year's UCL winners are in 2nd place, but 4 points behind the Catalans. They also went out in the Champions League quarter-finals against Arsenal (aggregate score: 1-5). Carlo Ancelotti's men therefore know that they are eagerly awaited in this King's Cup final. They will be doing their utmost to pull out all the stops and put a smile back on their socios' faces as the year draws to a close.

For many weeks now, FC Barcelona have been leaving little in their wake. At the start of 2025, Barça won the Spanish Supercup by beating Real Madrid in the final (2-5). The Blaugrana also remain on course to win La Liga. They have just won their 3 previous matches and are top of the table. They are 4 points clear of Real, with only 5 games left to play.
And the team coached by Hansi Flick also remains in contention for the last four of the Champions League. They will face Inter Milan for a place in the final. Finally, Barça are aiming to win the King's Cup. To reach the final, they beat Barbastro (0-4), Betis Sevilla (5-1), Valencia CF (0-5) and Atlético de Madrid (aggregate score: 5-4).

Real Madrid, for their part, were still able to win trophies this season. They won the European Supercup and the Intercontinental Cup. That's not to say that the Merengues are having a great season. As has been the case for some time now, Barcelona will have to cope with the absences of Marc-André ter Stegen, Marc Casado, and Marc Bernal. To make matters worse, Alejandro Balde and Robert Lewandowski recently picked up injuries that will prevent them from playing in the King's Cup final. Nevertheless, Hansi Flick retains a top-quality squad, starting with the goalkeeper. Having come out of retirement following Marc-André ter Stegen's injury, Wojciech Szczesny is back to his best.
In midfield, Pedri continues to shine with the Barça shirt on his shoulders. When he's lined up, he almost never disappoints. He is indispensable to a Barcelona side that has lost just once in 2025, at Borussia Dortmund, when Pedri did not start. And what about the Blaugrana's attack? In the absence of Robert Lewandowski, Ferran Torres has proved he can shine. And he will be well supported by Lamine Yamal and Raphinha on the wings.
Kylian Mbappé made his return to training. The Real Madrid striker should be present for this King's Cup final.
As for Real Madrid, Dani Carvajal, Eder Militao and Ferland Mendy are still injured. In addition, Carlo Ancelotti has announced that David Alaba and Eduardo Camavinga will miss the King's Cup final. On the good news front, the Madrid coach should see the return of Kylian Mbappé. After sustaining an injury in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal, the French striker has returned to training.
Real Madrid will need a great Thibaut Courtois if they are to lift the trophy. The Belgian last line of defence is used to shining in the most eagerly-awaited matches. Even if the Madrid team is struggling as a whole, it can count on its individual strengths. With Jude Bellingham, Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior and most probably Kylian Mbappé, Real Madrid can hope to score a few goals.
