A new season begins on Saturday evening, and one of the Major League Soccer venues to be called into action on the first weekend will be Q2 Stadium, where Austin FC and Sporting Kansas City will do business in a game between two teams that struggled to really make their mark last time around.
A lack of goals scored was a key problem for Saturday's hosts last season, so much so that they failed to reach the playoffs on pretty much that reason alone. No Western Conference team scored fewer goals than Austin, which is probably why the team from Q2 Stadium have brought in Myrto Uzuni, who spent the first half of the Spanish LaLiga 2 season on fire in front of goal. Can Uzuni's presence help Nico Estevez's men to improve? It won't be surprising if that turns out to be the case.
For SKC, the 2024 campaign was also a washout and they too are looking shift through the gears this season. Dejan Joveljic, who is known as a regular MLS scorer, has joined from LA Galaxy in what is a big move for Saturday's visitors, with them also hoping to score more goals. That transfer should definitely help.
