Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid Prediction & Picks - Champions League
by Bradley Gibbs in Champions League Picks
On Wednesday evening, it's crunch time for bitter rivals Atletico and Real Madrid, who will meet in the UEFA Champions League for the second time in just over a week. Can the hosts turn things around having lost the first leg by two goals to one?
Sure, Atletico lost the first leg, but they're only a goal behind, while they know all about getting results at Metropolitano Stadium, so this tie is far from over. Then again, to make it through, the hosts will have to do something that they haven't done too often in recent times, which is get the better of their city rivals at this venue. Diego Simeone's men have won just two of their last nine home renewals of this fixture.
For the visitors, it's all about seeing this out, which is something that they've done with aplomb in the UEFA Champions League in recent times. Carlo Ancelotti's men will be looking to keep things tight before hitting their hosts on the break, much as they did against Manchester City in the previous round.

Atletico Madrid - Real Madrid: Form Analysis
Let's be honest, there wasn't much between the pair at the Bernabeu last week, so this could easily go the way of the hosts, but they'll need to deliver a big performance, much as they did when beating Bilbao recently, as well as when they beat Leverkusen in their last home match in this competition. At the weekend, Simeone's men lost to Getafe, which was their first domestic defeat since January. At home, they've won three of their last four.
As far as the visitors are concerned, overall this season, playing on the road hasn't really been an issue. Ancelotti's men have lost only one of their last five, but that was their most recent away game, while they have now lost two of their last six, winning only three of those six, so they're far from infallible away from home.

Atletico Madrid & Real Madrid Squad Analysis
Koke is the only player due to miss out for Atletico, which means that Diego Simeone can field his strongest side. Having not started at the weekend, Alexander Sorloth could come into the starting XI, though there probably won't be many changes to the team that played the first leg, meaning that Julian Alvarez and Antoine Griezmann should start up front together again.
There are a few absentees for the visitors to consider. Dani Carvajal and Dani Ceballos are both still out, while Eder Militao is sidelined too. Kylian Mbappe and Rodrygo both went off early at the weekend and should start here. Eduardo Camavinga was rested on Saturday, but he could come back into the starting XI here as Ancelotti looks for maximum energy in midfield.
