The international break has forced supporters of both of these sides to deeply contemplate the predicament they have found themselves in after not only disappointing Leagues Cup performances, but poor runs of form in domestic action as well. Nashville has clearly struggled under the tutelage of BJ Callaghan, a well-touted former United States Men’s National Team interim manager now debuting as a head coach in the MLS. Callaghan was designated to begin coaching duties this summer in the Leagues Cup, but quickly saw his team exit after failing to advance past the group stage. Atlanta United was also a shock to not advance to the knockout stage after losing on penalties.
